Anne Aspinall, a past president of the LIPHA as well as a founding member of the Hampton Classic Horse Show and a well-known trainer at the Topping Riding Club in Sagaponack, died on Thursday, February 16, 2012 after a long battle with cancer. She was 65 years old.

A respected hunter-jumper trainer, Anne produced countless champions and before her illness was a regular participant on the Long Island horse show circuit as a coach and rider.

“Our sport, and anyone who has ever enjoyed even a single day of the Hampton Classic over these last 36 years, owes Anne a tremendous debt of gratitude,” said Dennis Suskind, president of the Hampton Classic Board of Directors.

Anne served on the board and executive committee of the Hampton Classic since she became a founding member in 1976. In 2007, she received the Hampton Classic’s inaugural Long Island Sportsmanship Award for 35 years of service to the Long Island Hunter-Jumper industry.

“Everyone associated with Hampton Classic is deeply saddened at the loss of this key member of our family,” Mr. Suskind said. “She will be missed greatly.”

Anne is survived by her sister, Emily, who is vice president of the Hampton Classic Board of Directors. Ω
